Expert Network Cabling and Wiring in San Diego (Cat5e (100MB), Cat6 (1GB), POE, Cat5, Phone, VOIP)

Network Cabling Done Right for San Diego Businesses

Gilham Consulting presents installs and certifies data network and phone cabling for Cat5e and Cat6 for data networking needs.

All we performance certify all results on CAT5e, and CAT6 cables to ensure the cabling will do the job it’s rated to do.

We do the job right, on time, and on budget.

Tip: Ask your network installer if they're testing gear will certify to Cat6 and 1 Gigabyte speeds...most won't.  Most wiring vendors use continuity testers...but these testers do not measure interference, kinks, etc.  Don't get stuck with faulty wiring that may run to close to ceiling power transformers (in florescent lights) causing you intermittent network issues over the life of your wiring. Use only vendors that certify their cable.

Network Wiring Choices Available for Install

Category 5E Cable - Cat5E(enhanced) This is the same wiring as Category 5, except that it is made to somewhat more stringent standards to support Gigabit.  Category 5E is recommended for all new installations, and was designed for transmission speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gigabit Ethernet) to 350M.
Category 6 Cable - Cat6 Same as Category 5 E, except that it is made to a higher standard shielding and twisted pair standard. The Category 6 can 550M or 1000M depending on your network switch source.

Note - All our cable is Plenum Fire Rated to toxic avoid fumes in case of a fire.

Our Network Certification Highlights:

  • Test/certify Ethernet system network cables up to 1 Gigabit
speed, using a full digital Bit Error Rate Test for the most sophisticated certification available
  • Measure cable length and distances to opens and shorts
    using advanced TDR technology
  • TIA568 measurements include NEXT, attenuation, return
loss, SKEW and overall Signal-to-Noise Ratio to ensure no interference.
  • Test telephone, coax, security/alarm cables for continuity,
    proper termination and polarity
  • Wiremap final report certifies individual runs and ensures accurate cable measurements for billing purposes.
  • Length of cable (TDR) distance to opens and shorts, Echo testing (return loss)-impedance mismatches
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio including attenuation, amplitude, NEXT [all combinations on all pairs (12)] Performance and Speed Certification
  • Test interconnect specifications per TIA568/570
  • Measures the quality of the signal through the cable against set criteria on cable data-carrying capability in real time; 100 Mb/Gb speeds.
  • Real-time testing of the performance capability of the cable qualifies VoIP lines and POE switches.
  • Measures signal quality in actual link environments that could account for cable inadequacies: physical installation, kink, loops,
physical terminations, dry shorts, and miswires.

    Wiremap
    (Standard)

This is the most basic test that can be performed on a category-5E segment. Wiremap tests for the basic continuity between the two  devices. In 568A or B, all eight pins of each  device should be wired straight through (1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, etc.). A wiremap (continuity) test, should also test for absence of shorts, grounding, and external voltage.

    Crosstalk
    (Our Enhanced Network Certification)

Crosstalk is the "bleeding" of signals carried by one pair, onto another pair through the electrical process of induction (wires need not make contact, signals transferred magnetically). This is an unwanted effect, that can cause slow transfer, or completely inhibit the transfer of data signals over the cable segment. The purpose of the wire twists, in category 5E cable is to significantly reduce the crosstalk, and it's effects. Two types are: NEXT (Near End Crosstalk), and FEXT (Far End Crosstalk).
    Ambient Noise or Electromagnetic Interference
    (Our Enhanced Network Certification)
Similar to crosstalk, in that it is an unwanted signal that is induced into the cable. The difference is that ambient noise (or EMI) is typically induced from a source that is external to the cable. This could be an electrical cable or  device, or even an adjacent category 5E cable.
    Attenuation
    (Our Enhanced Network Certification)
Attenuation is the loss of signal in a cable segment due to the resistance of the wire plus other electrical factors that cause additional resistance (Impedance and Capacitance for example). A longer cable length, poor connections, bad insulation, a high level of crosstalk, or ambient noise, will all increase the total level of attenuation.
