| Great article! I have a question regarding how the User Profiles actually get "cleared out". I'm seeing same profiles are showing everday eventhough deleted them manually. Steps Taken... 1. created new LDAP Filter to limit a number of user profiles that match. 2. Ran Full User Import (Now am showing about 10,000 User Profiles that show up under "Profiles Missing from Import") 3. Manually ran 3 or 4 more Full User Imports. (User Profiles continue to show up under "Profiles Missing from Import"). When does Sharepoint actually delete these missing user profiles? Is there a step I am missing? Thank you for any help! | SharePoint makes heavy use of the SQL Server database but there is an issue of SQL Server not being fully optimized to handle, query BLOBs. Moreover the performance of SQL Server degrades at peak load times. To overcome these issues the BLOB storage must be externalized. Caching techniques can also be applied so that BLOBs can be served from cache for faster access. Some software applications like Ncachepoint, storagepoint or avepoint does the caching for sharepoint. Ncachepoint also caches lists, asp.net sessions and optimizes css and javascripts for faster page loading. i think these are good piece of software to consider to avoid performance and scalability issues of sharepoint

| E2007 will use both of the HT form an internal mail perspective. Its not really considered HA but will help if one of the two is down by using AD to determine which one is available. The issue is this doesn’t take care of the External perspective (mail coming in from the internet or applications that relay SMTP using the HT). To take care of this scenario its better to use NLB or Hardware loadbalancer and point the Internet/SMTP App to the NLB Virtual address of the NLB. Over at www.testexchangeconnectivity.com we get the following warning: "The test passed with some warnings encountered. Please expand additional details. Only able to build certificate chain when using the Root Certificate Update functionality from Windows Update. Your server may not be properly configured to send down the required intermediate certificates to complete the chain. Consult the certificate installation instructions or FAQ's from your Certificate Authority for more information" As far as I can tell using openssl, we're getting the chain all the way down to valicert.com. Should I ignore this warning? The second issue is a real problem. When I'm on the inside of our local network, I am able to utilize the msstd:exchange.mydomain.com and get a good connection. Note that I'm logged into Active Directory (AD). As soon as I take that same laptop outside of the network not connected to the AD, but using an ADSL connection, it keeps asking me for my credentials over and over again. Just to name a few: internet explorer mobile, live mesh for mobile, silverlight 2 for mobile, windows media player mobile, windows mobile marketplace,.NET compact framework, .NET mobile, compact framework, and SQL server compact. Microsoft has officially confirmed a new web browser for Windows Mobile, Internet Explorer 6. The hottest new features and apps include: My Phone--a backup and recovery service for contacts, photos and other data stored on a mobile device. My Phone will also be available for phones running Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1. The new Windows Marketplace for Mobile is a centralized place to buy increasingly popular mobile applications. The new Windows Mobile 6.5 user interface is designed to be more "finger friendly," You can also move icons up or down in the new layout. In addition, the new Windows Mobile Home screen will support special widgets, which will give status information like missed calls, new messages, etc. Another new feature of Windows Mobile 6.5 allows people to go directly to waiting voice mail, text messages or other information when unlocking their phones. Microsoft Recite, came out of the company's research group. It allows people to record voice notes or other audio files on Windows Mobile phones and then search for keywords using their voice. | Hello John, Thanks for the tips. Hopefull, they'll help me resolve this problem. I changed the setting this way: Set-OutlookProvider EXPR -Server $null -CertPrincipalName msstd:mail.company.org This matches what is in the Exchange Proxy Settings. Moreover: - Portquery shows that both port 80 and 443 are LISTENING. - OWA works just fine. Outlook works fine internally. It still doesn't work... I'm thinking the only possibilities are: - the FQDN of the mail server (mailserver1.mydomain.local) is not included in the cert (this was messed up, so we do get the resulting warning message when Outlook is used internally. However, users can click OK and proceed). So... that can't be the primary name in the cert. - No autodiscover.mydomain.org (or local?) in cert. That's not speculation - I KNOW that those entries are not present.
